SiMCare Diabetes Education

SiMCare Diabetes is a highly effective online CME program for physicians and other health care professionals. Based on actual patient data, the SiMCare diabetes education program has been shown to improve blood sugar control in a large patient population with diabetes without increasing clinical costs. SiMCare Diabetes education program has also been shown to make care more appropriate and safer; for example it decreases the use of contraindicated drugs in high-risk clinical situations. SiMCare Diabetes provides an engaging online experience, with demonstrated results observed after as little as one hour of learning exposure (three simulated cases) and can be completed from anywhere with internet access. Refer to study results for details.

The SiMCare Diabetes education program is a comprehensive curriculum developed by leading physicians and medical experts in diabetes care to promote appropriate disease management and reduce medication errors. It accomplishes the learning objectives using 18 simulated cases that replicate real and challenging type 1 and type 2 diabetes scenarios. In addition to diagnosing and appropriately managing the patients over longitudinal encounters, learners of the online CME are challenged to achieve all the recommended care goals for each patient within six months of simulated time using an interactive electronic health record-like interface. Providers can choose from a large array of realistic actions and between encounters, learners receive feedback on their progress to care goals and suggestions to guide future actions.

HealthPartners Institute, a non-profit institute and recognized leader in diabetes education and research, developed SiMCare Diabetes with collaboration from the University of Minnesota and with federal grants received from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), and the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). SiMCare Diabetes online CME provides up to 18 CME credits and is fully accredited by the ACCME for medical content.
